Ngga kerasa di bulan puasa ini udah memasuki hari ke 11-ish, that would also mean kita udah masuk ke bulan Agustus, our nation’s Independence Day Month. Gimana puasa kalian? well i hope Allah gave us both the strength and guidance all through this month.
Anyway, bulan ini dominasi film film yang memacu adrenaline bakal bergantian rilis di seluruh dunia, and hopefully Indonesia too, mulai dari Sylvester Stallone yang lagi lagi berhasil ngumpulin sederatan aktor laga kawakan buat baku hantam di film terbarunya, atau Jeremy Renner yang kali ini menyandang predikat Bourne, ngga ketinggalan juga film horor based on true story yang terjadi tahun 2004 kemaren karya sutradara Ole Burnedal, dan di antara film film pemompa adrenaline ini, nyempil film film ringan buat kita mengistirahatkan jantung, dari bocah kecil yang punya kemampuan supranatural sama kumpulan bocah bocah tengil yang ga abis ulah ulah nakalnya. Not much of a variety this month is, but surely, it’s a heart-pumping one!

Total Recall
kesan futuristis yang menonjolkan karakter Dennis Quaid, cukup melambangkan film ini.
Film dengan judul yang sama pernah di rilis pada tahun 1990 dengan menggunakan nama Arnold Schwarzenegger dan Sharon Stone sebagai ujung tombaknya, and well that movie was great, back in the 90’s but director Paul Verhoeven have such a strong imagination, the one that probably, none of us ever imagined yet. And now 12 years later, Sony Pictures decided to make a remake of that movie.
A factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. That’s when he knew about Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen.
Colin Farrel yang dulu sempat heboh sejak memerankan agen Jim Street di S.W.A.T (2003) mulai meredup namanya, dan mungkin film ini bisa jadi batu loncatan buat kelanjutan karir beraktingnya, bersanding dengan nama nama terkenal macam Kate Beckinsale, Bill Nighy, dan Jessica Biel, langkah Sony meremake film ini bisa dibilang cukup bagus. Tapi hal itu tentu saja belom bener bener menjamin kalo film ini bakal sukses, karena seperti setiap film remake lainnya, standar yang di tinggalkan film predecessornya bisa membuat film remake seperti menjadi sebuah flop yang merugikan, nonetheless Total Recall cukup manis jadi film pembuka bulan Agustus ini.

David Bower once again duduk di kursi sutradara, Fox 2000 sejatinya bener bener ngga mau nunggu lama buat bikin adapatasi dari novel karya Jeff Kinneys ini, mulai dari 2010 dimana film pertamanya main, lanjut 2011 untuk film kedua dengan sub judul Rodrick Rules, lalu film ketiga yang berjudul Dog Days ini, meskipun film film sebelumnya memiliki subjudul yang sama dengan novelnya secara berurutan juga, namun kali ini David Bower selaku sutradara menggabungkan materi buku ketiga dan keempat dalem film kali ini. Hence for those who, like i am, enjoy the book might wondering where is the “The Last Straw” novel adaptation movie, here it is, together with the fourth book.
Now, sejak dari keluaran film pertama tidak ada perubahan yang terlalu kentara dari segi kualitas film, layaknya film film anak-beranjak remaja, plot yang diangkat tidak jauh jauh dari kehidupan sehari hari dan cukup mudah di cerna, cuman mungkin melihat secara keseluruhan tidak ada yang waw dari film ini, bahkan “pemanis” film ini waktu dulu di film pertama, Chloe Moretz juga sudah tidak di kontrak lagi, a rather bland comedy movie i guess.

The Bourne Legacy
the bourne’s back, his legacy at least.
Novel karya Robert Ludlum satu ini memang keren banget, i once read the Bourne novel in its untranslated version, and it was magnificent, it’s so espionage , Bourne is truly a master spy. Anyway at 2007 the Bourne story was over, he’s suspected dead, the corrupt agent are all gone, all is well. But of course, the Bourne name itself is a gold mine for Universal Pictures. Tapi kalo lagi lagi mengangkat karakter Bourne mungkin bukan langkah yang baik, bahkan waktu masih dalam tahap negosiasi dari pihak Matt Damon juga tidak sepenuhnya setuju, maka lalu muncullah ide ini. The lead role is no longer Jason Bourne, but now it’s Aaron Cross, a similar agent like Bourne, trained to kill, and to do it swiftly and as quietly as possible.
Aaron Cross, here portrayed by Jeremy Renner, is an agent whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events in the original three movies, that’s where the title Bourne Legacy comes in, kejadian yang menimpa Cross bisa dibilang, legacy, atau warisan dari sepak terjang Bourne di film sebelumnya. Selain Jeremy Renner, beberapa nama baru juga di tampilkan di film ini, seperti Rachel Weisz (The Mummy) dan Edward Norton (The Incredible Hulk). Beberapa karakter veteran dari trilogi originalnya juga masih ada beberapa yang masih di perankan oleh pemerannya yang lama, tokoh Dr. Albert Fisch yang di perankan Albert Finney misalnya.
It’s a pretty highly anticipated movie, Jeremy Renner, one of my admired actor, playing the Bourne movie, which one of the movies i love too, i just hope that the idea of continuing the saga won’t turned out to be a flop for Universal Pictures

The Campaign
this movie was originally titled “Dog Fight” , but later changed into “the Campaign”
Zach Galfianakis, that comedian is a master of pulling anyone’s legs. Tokoh yang dia peranin standar sih, an innocent, yet foolish man in his 30 – 40s , but oh my god, he’s always making me laugh, and now, he played a movie with Will Ferrel? the Anchorman? that just pure awesome, this is surely a breather before we ran into a whole month of action and horror movies.
Cam Brady (Will Ferrel), a long-term congressman makes a stupid mistake, the major kind of gaffe stunt, throws him into a political disaster, and what’s more, the election is coming. But that’s not just it, because of his stupid act, a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs plot to put up a rival candidate and gain influence over their North Carolina district. Posing their director of the local Tourism Center, Marty Huggins (Zach Galfianakis) as their poster man, the battle ensued.
Higgins yang awalnya masuk kategori underdog ternyata berhasil membuktikan kalo dia itu contender yang bakal menyusahkan partai Brady, di bantu oleh his new benefactors’ support, a cutthroat campaign manager and his family’s political connections Higgins memaksa Brady buat berkonfrontasi secara langsung which quickly escalating to insulting each other, pointing out injury until all they care about is burying each other, in this mud-slinging, back-stabbing, home-wrecking comedy.
Nama nama komedian handal jadi senajata utama film ini, selain 2 leading role di atas juga masih ada Jason Sudeikis yang film nya Horrible Bosses belum lama ini sukses mengocak perut saya. Lead with these comedian actors, it’s a promised laugh.

The Expendables 2
Sly’s destructive dream, wreck havoc once again.
Back in 2010, waktu Slyvester Stallone merilis film mega aksi nya dimana dalam satu film dia berhasil memasukkan berbagai nama aktor aktor laga yang namanya udah ngga perlu di tanya lagi, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Randy Couture, dan masih banyak yang lainnya, bahkan Arnold Schwarzenegger pun tampil jadi cameo, meskipun secara kualitas film The Expendables bukan termasuk yang wah, atau yang bagus banget, namun kesuksesan dalam angka jelas membuat pihak studio tergiur dan memberikan lampu hijau buat Sly melanjutkan mimpinya dia ini.
The Expendables 2 pun akhirnya dibuat, dan akan di rilis Agustus ini, nama nama yang lebih gila lagi bermunculan di film ini, Chuck Norris, Novak Djokovic, Bruce Willis, Jean Claude Van-Damme, all of them is a veteran action movie actor, it will be massive. Action wise i guess this movie packing a lot of gun powder and explosions, and a lot of hand to hand brawl, it’s not a movie, it’s a series of destruction and kick ass scenes.
One of the most anticipated scene probably is where Sly’s gonna fightin Van Damme 1 on 1, they’re both big, they’re both vicious, they’re both winners. That however probably is the only convincing scenes in this movie, even though Sly promised to deliver a better story and everything, i consent this movie.
Tapi buat kalian yang sangat suka film laga, then this is probably one of those movies you don’t wanna miss, veteran actors reunion, on a bad ass, full explosions movie too. Blasting.

even little kids will have a taste of adrenaline pumping this month
Meet Norman Babcock (a very poorly chose name for a kid’s movie, i know) , voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee, a boy who was gifted, or cursed, with ability of able to talk with the dead and such. And that just not the end of Norman’s problem, because his small hometown, Blithe Hollow, is about to be overrun by zombies. Only he, is able to prevent the destruction of his town from a centuries-old witch’s curse. But in order to do that, he have take on, not only the zombies, but all other ghastly beings such as ghosts, witches, and the worst of all, the moronic grown-ups. This young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.
Coming from the one that brings you Coraline (2009) a very capsizing stop motion animated picture, the Laika Entertainment, sekali lagi menyajikan tontonan berkualitas dengan teknik stop motion, for you who doesn’t aware of what a stop-motion is, jadi stop motion itu teknik pembuatan film di mana karakter yang akan di tayangkan bukan hasil gambar atau karya komputer, namun dari model, yang biasanya berupa mainan berbahan lead, yang terdiri dari berbagai macam tampilan ekspresi dan gerakan tangan, yang setiap gerakannya di tangkap dengan menata gerakan yang dimaksud frame by frame melalui toy model itu tadi. Hasilnya akan menyajikan sebuah cinema yang tastenya berbeda dari kebanyakan film animasi sekarang, might be not as smooth as today’s animated pictures, but it gives us a one kind of experience.
Masih menayangkan film dengan tema horor atau awkwardly sinister plot, maybe ParaNorman will give us a surprising experience. You can call this one an underdog movie this month.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, aktor kelahiran Los Angeles, California bulan February 17, 1981 ini memang sedang dalam masa jaya jayanya, semenjak di nominasikan sebagai Best Actor atas perannya di (500) Days of Summer, film film JGL, sapaan akrabnya, semakin bermunculan, diantaranya Inception, 50/50 atau bahkan yang paling gres The Dark Knight Rises. Kualitas akting yang mumpuni serta ke khas an wajahnya kayaknya jadi fitur utama aktor berumur 31 tahun ini. And if he did keep up his good work, we really will gonna see a lot of his movies coming along over the years from now on.
In the other hand, this movie surely will gives us a good “adrenaline bridge” before entering the last week of August.

The Apparition
our first horror movie released this month
Publik yang mulai bosan dengan film film horor found footage layaknya bisa girang bulan Agustus ini, karena di bulan ini, film horor classic dengan teknik pengambilan gambar yang lebih “profesional” dibandingkan dengan gambar gambar yang di tampilkan di film horor jenis mockumentary. The Apparition ini salah satunya, menceritakan tentang sepasang muda mudi, Kelly (Ashley Greene) dan Ben (Sebastian Stan) yang sadar bahwa mereka berdua di ikuti oleh sesosok makhluk halus yang secara tidak sengaja terpanggil waktu ada sebuah eksperimen parapsychology di universitas mereka berdua. This horrifying apparition feeds on their fear and torments them no matter where they try to run. Their las resort was the help of an expert in supernatural, Patrick (Tom Felton), but even with the help of this expert, they may already be too late to save themselves from this terrifying force of death.
Vibe yang masih mirip mirip kayak Paranormal Activity emang kental di film ini, plot yang mirip mirip juga, namun dengan pengambilan gambar yang hopefully lebih terfokus jadi memudahkan kita buat secara maksimal absorbs the scary aura that this movie gives other than that, nothing seems to be out of the ordinary from this movie, no prodigal director or expertly selected casts, it’s a plain horror movie, with a classic taste that is. Oh this movie also featured Tom Felton, Draco Malfoy from the Potter Saga, it’s his 1st major role after the Potter Saga ended, let’s hope he didn’t flop as much as Daniel Radcliffe in his similar horror movie, The Woman in Black.

The Possession
Ole Burnedal’s milestone? or is it now?
And for the last movie in August, Lionsgate Films gave us a hell of a view. The Possession, a story about the urban legend of a Dybbuk box, you might wanna google that, because that story is scary as hell. The story revolving this haunted box was around in 2004 and make quite a fuss in the USA, and director Ole Burnedal decided to put it on the silverscreen.
The box is real, its curse is legendary, after purchasing an old box at a yard sale, a young girl , Em (Natasha Calis), is obsessed with opening it, although her father says it appears to have been designed not to open. Em begins to exhibit bizarre and violent behavior. Since her parents recently divorced, her initial actions go without much notice, but Em’s behavior soon becomes more and more extreme. Fearing for their daughter, Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Stephanie Berek (Kyra Sedgwick) make various attempts – from brain scans to consulting rabbis – to discover what the supernatural force behind the box is, what it wants, and how to keep it from destroying Em.
The notoriety of this cursed box happen where its owner was somehow caused inexplicable bad fortune, yang akhirnya dikait kaitkan dengan sebuat arwah jahat dari buadaya Yahudi, Dybbuk, yang ternyata trapped in that haunted box. Based on true events seperti itu memberikan efek misterius yang cukup mengerikan di film ini, bahkan layaknya film film horor based on true story lainnya, beberapa hal aneh terjadi waktu proses pembuatannya, Jeffrey Dean Morgan yang juga melakukan riset kecil kecilan, insisted that he don’t actually comes near with the box. What more bizarre is five days after they wrapped the movie, all of the props was burned, of course the conflicted sides said that it was a coincidence, but is it really just a coincidence?
Apart from the dubious rumor, film horor ini agaknya bakal menutup bulan Agustus dengan manis, dalam taraf yang mencekam tentunya.

Well that was it, what a mean ride right? Agustus bener bener jadi bulan heart pumping buat para pecinta film film layar lebar. All in all rata rata film bulan Agustus ini juga tidak ada yang terlalu disappointing, tapi jufa tidak ada yang sangat excellent, mungkin karena mayoritas film film action dan horor klasik yang memang pakemnya tidak terlalu tinggi, juga animo masyarakat yang relatif tidak banyak membutuhkan banyak perubahan untuk formula macam itu.
Anyways, brace yourself guys, August is coming!
